Roger Heagney has gained an international reputation as a pianist, harpsichordist and organist, giving recitals in Germany, France, England, China, Turkey, Brunei and Malaysia, as well as in festivals in Australia.  His chamber music performances include concerts with the Canberra Wind Soloists, the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Trio Polyphonica, Trio Melbourne and the Academy of Melbourne.

 

Roger’s keyboard teaching includes several years as guest at the Pan Pacific Music Camps (Sydney) and at the Canberra School of Music He has been a member of selection panels and adjudicator at many competitions and lectured in Keyboard Performance, Composition and Choral Conducting at the Australian Catholic University where he instituted the degree course in Church Music. During his time as Director of Music at St Francis’ Church Melbourne, the St Francis’ Choir gained a considerable international reputation from numerous recordings, two overseas tours and its commissioning and performing of many new works by Australian composers.

 

His CDs include the complete Flute Sonatas of J S Bach with Vernon Hill, Virginia Taylor and Jacqueline Johnson, G F Handel’s Flute Sonatas with Frederick Shade, the Sounds of Christmas plus performances of Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Missa in Tempore Belli and the Messe Solennelle of Charles Gounod with St Francis’ Choir, and 20th Century Piano Trios with Trio Melbourne.  CDs of his vocal music include Fortune my Foe and Four Song Cycles composed for Merlyn Quaife soprano and Andrea Katz piano. His Sirens for quartet and two pianos was premiered by Songmakers Australia at the Melbourne Recital Centre in 2017

 

In 1997 he received the Order of Australia Medal for his services to music.
